西原理恵子の本に、「漫画家になりたいじゃなくて、漫画を書いて食べていきたいと考えると、何をすべきかが見えてくる」という内容の言葉があったけれど、 いわれてみれば明らかなそんなことが、自分にとってははじめて指摘を受けたことであって、読んだときにはずいぶん新鮮だった。

「なりたい」と、「それで食べていきたい」との差はわずかだけれど、努力の方向は大きく異なる。 努力に親和性が高いのは前者で、「お金は汚い」という、道徳に合致するのも前者で、結果としてなんとなく、 学校では後者を教えないような気がする。
